You know the current mission status is “*hopefully* we can launch a manned lunar landing in 2028 but we probably will not”, right? Artemis II is just a flyby, and Artemis III has been changed to an LEO test flight.
This is, frankly, embarrassing performance from the institution that once achieved numerous successful lunar landings with just KBs of RAM and storage plus copious amounts of cigarettes. In fact it does a fairly poor job of convincing conspiracists of the veracity of such achievements half a century ago.

To be fair, with today’s CGI tech, it wouldn’t be that hard to fake a moon mission. You wouldn’t be able to fake the rocket launch, of course, but the crew being on board is within today’s commercial CGI capabilities.

I believe people were on the moon. But if somebody asks me why weren’t there more missions, with such technological progress, I wouldn’t know what to answer. With modern computers and avionics, this should be a trivial task, if people did it on a calculator back in a day.
